Evidence explains objective reality, but mindfulness discovers the subjective reality
No doubt, the body of evidence exists about the benefits of mindfulness. It is due to the great contributions made by great researchers and medical experts like Kabat-Zinn, Susan Smalley,and many others. According to great masters who founded and discovered the practices of mindfulness/ meditations, declare that it aims at the discovery of subjective reality or our real nature or discovery of Pure Consciousness.
Can we limit the practice for a few minutes, a few hours or a few days of retreat? Science likes a controlled study. Can a controlled study be ever possible in mindfulness? According to the father of Eastern Psychology, Patanjali and codifier of Yoga, as explained by a commentator, says that mind lives in five subjective and objective states. Until a person understands these five subjective and five objective states, he is not qualified to undertake the journey of mindfulness. Buddha explained the same principles in the noble eightfold path. That is why he guided the practice of mindfulness as the seventh step.
Mindfulness/meditation is a state,not steps as famous in the west
The famous and flowery languages whenused in mindfulness, the seeker misses the truth as explained and taught to us by our great masters. The body scan meditation, walking meditation, hatha yoga meditation, yoga Nidra meditation, breath mindfulness,etc. are steps given to seekers.
Many seekers develop conditioning of mind on any of the steps mentioned above. The time comes in their lives when the practice becomes habitual and lose all its benefits received at the beginning of practice.
The state of being or pure consciousness or real nature or state of emptiness or nothingness are different words and phrases used by different masters.
Take, for example; we try to force the mind to emptiness or nothingness to experience the state. But the reality is that when the mind loses the objectivity, it enters an experience of mindfulness state. The state of mindfulness reveals our true nature. Because of the subjective state, we cannot speak about it; Buddha says – nothingness. Patanjali clarifies that mind naturally lives in inner peace and happiness, it is otherwise when the same mind is objectified and ossified by objects of senses, thought the pattern of the mind and subconscious and habitual living.
The discovery of subjective reality which is mindfulness/ meditation will surely help people suffering from mental, physical, social challenges.
